My Week Thus Far

This seems the most convenient way to log my week for the benefit of my sis who is currently in Shanghai and far far away from her puter. :(

Monday. Kelly was REALLY ticked at the kids. I have no idea what they pulled, but she said they were out of control. Now, I know they have that potential. What I had never seen before was Kelly that upset. Ok, not true. She was that upset last Friday when one kid was being incredibly defiant.

Tuesday. I lectured the kids for ten minutes on behavior. I hate doing that, but they will not mess with me and Kelly again, so help me! Later that day, when I asked her how they did, she gave them a thumbs up.

After school, I took a nap. This testing business lets me get a lot done in the mornings, but it also leaves me exhausted. My brain is tired. After my nap and a snack, I dug out my Swiss Army knife, the keys to the garage closet, and finally my potential walking stick. For the hour and a half before I had to leave to get to small group, I scraped bark off my stick. It's gonna be a cool stick.

The other two in the group are on my case about the dad thing. That's ok. I'm still not convinced I want to mess with it, really. It is good, though, to have so many people who won't let me off...

Wednesday. The listening test was today. It was torment. My brain was NUMB after it. Poor kids. But at least they were thinking. I was just reading out loud to them. And it was incredibly boring. Ugh.

After lunch I got 6-1 and Kelly took 6-2. I was supposed to have 6-1 from 12:50 to 1:50. We were maybe going to finish The Emperor's New Groove today. However, Just as Izma and the kids were having their discussion on crucial conjunctions, Kelly came to talk to me. 6-2 was refusing to do anything, and she was practically begging me to take them back. It was 1:25. I agreed, requesting a few minutes to get them their homework and have them pack to switch back. This has never happened before.

When my class came back in, they knew they were in for it. I was seriously furious. I told them...

You will sit in your seat. You will not get up. You will not talk. You will do your math and any other work you need to do. If you finish your work, you may put your head down or read. You will not do anything else. I cannot believe your behavior. It is unacceptable. You are better than that. Come to think of it, you might consider writing a letter of apology to Mrs. C.

They were fine for me the rest of the day. Angels, in fact. I think they knew how ready to take them out we both were. I think they got it when she kicked them out twenty minutes early. 6-1 may have helped. They knew it was 6-2's fault that they didn't get to finish the movie. They probably gave them some trouble for it. Positive peer pressure. It's a good tool.

Well, I was supposed to be at church at 3 for a meeting. We dismiss at 2:30 this week, which theoretically leaves me plenty of time, but we have to be at the parking lot until 2:45. Days like this, I arrange with Kelly to have her watch dismissal so I can leave. I kinda figured today would not be a good day for that. I stayed.

I still managed to get to church at 3:05. That had to be divine intervention. I left campus at 2:52. The 1.5 mile stretch of street was packed between school and the freeway. There are 6 lights on that stretch. All of them were red. The on-ramp was backed up, as a result of the meter. I got stuck behind all the bad drivers who wanted to leave a mile between them and the guy in front of them. To accomplish this they drove 40 mph. The one time there wasn't a huge gap in front of the car in front of me, a semi decided he needed to swerve into our lane, cutting a car off and forcing several of us to slam on our brakes. The guy in front of me swerved left. Good thing too, cause he wasn't going to be able to stop in time, and I would probably have been in his trunk shortly thereafter. All that taken into account, it makes no sense at all that I got to church in thirteen minutes.

The meeting went ok. It was no big deal really, except that after that day, it was really nice to spend an hour with two really special people. Since then, I've done some school work, finished scraping my stick, and duked it out with a very contrary internet connection.

Oh yeah, and I posted this. :)
