Open House
I do hereby and forever outlaw open house. The scheduling of such atrocities shall be punishable by hefty fines and hard labor styled community service. Those who choose to ignore this mandate AND add to the same week "grades due" could face capital punishment. This is a serious offense.
I am almost not kidding here, people. The last week has been evil. Tomorrow will be the first day in a week that I'll have been able to leave campus within an hour of dismissal. Or even before 7 pm. I have been driven to the edge of my physical capability. I almost didn't make it.
Before exhaustion claims me, let me tell you that all is well. Open house (all one stinking hour of it) went well. My grades were turned in yesterday. How did I accomplish this incredible feat? One word. Kelly.
This has been something of a bonding week for the two of us. She almost stuck around Friday to "bug the hell out of" my mom. (Her words). Friday we went off about how upset everyone is about Leo leaving. Today we concurred that the ONE HOUR was just a bit anti-climactic after several weeks of hell. (Again her words)
Kelly helped me with grading, she copied the printed grades onto the page we turn in (which would have taken me HOURS), she designed and directed the construction of the forest... I could NOT have done this without her.
One thing I've noticed, for all the oddities of our hall, it is a very cooperative group. Ok, some of us are. One of us is an island. Hardly associates with the rest of us. That's ok. It's just who she is. But Tracy, Kelly and me? Yeah. Resources, labor and time are constantly shared. Reminds me. Tracy has my glue gun. Hmmm. :)
The worst (open house) does tend to emphasize Good, and in this case, it pointed out to me a very special little community that blew me away when I began to realize on Friday, and more so yesterday, what is there.
Ok, I'll say it. WHAT a CONTRAST from where I was a year ago!
