One more fear faced. For the first time ever, I played volleyball today and enjoyed it. I never play this game. It is the evilest of sports, which are generally not cool (only because I suck at all of them).

A bit of history for the uninitiated. In 6th grade I attempted volleyball for the first time. I was forced. It was part of PE, and Mr Trathen decided we were playing volleyball. The stupid ball hit me on the head. That hurt!

Ever since then I have proven to be a volleyball magnet. They hit me every chance they get. It's like those cats that always know I'm allergic to them, so they decide to visit me. Volleyballs have malicious intent. It's a conspiracy, you see. As a result, I make it a general rule to avoid games like the plague, primarily because they ARE the plague. I really hate volleyball. Can you tell?

One time in high school, I was at the beach with my high school group. A game started up, and I was quite content to sit on the sidelines and watch. I have no problem watching volleyball, oddly. Well, someone told me I was playing. I argued and told him I was no good at all, but darn that man, he insisted. Not long into the game, one of my teammates, after a classic move of avoidance on my part, announced me as "the other team's secret weapon." This was not cool. When I rotated out, I was done. It was over between me and the sport.

Today I got bored of just watching. I figured we were getting pretty silly anyway. The 34 of us had eaten a 200 count box of Otter Pops in a half hour. Then I realized that the team Kelly wasn't on was almost as bad as me, so I figured, ah what the hey. I played. I sucked. They laughed at me, but so did I. I started it, in fact. Besides, I had been hit already so many times, I figured the safest place to be was the court!

I did actually attempt to hit the ball a few times. Four of those times I made contact. Two of those times did not result in me being laughed at. Not too much, anyway. I call this a success.

My arm still hurts though.
