Dinosaur Bones

Are you shaking?

I was sitting there, the toes of my sneakers on the floor, the heels straight up. I was leaned forward with my arms around my knees. My shoulders were tense, and yes, I was shaking. She noticed before I did.

Maybe.

Why?

I don't know.

Try again.

*snarking* You know, it's a good thing we're getting somewhere, cause you're obnoxious!

*laughs* Yes! I'm doing my job, then!

Something was poked at tonight in counseling. More underlying assumptions are being unearthed, as though they were dinosaur bones and Counselor is a paleontologist with a paintbrush. I tried to describe the feeling to her, but I lost the word for a bit. I called them "dinosaur people." Then I remembered paleontologist. She laughed. She laughs a lot. This is good.

I'm still shaking. I'm breathing. I'm listening to my calming playlist.

I'm exhausted.

Counseling = one of the hardest things, but one of the best things a person can do.
