Yup, It's May Again
Last year this week I heard a rumor. Turned out to be true, but I was given no warning. I was blindsided and trapped, and none too happy with the arrangement.
Last Friday, we received a meeting schedule. Each of us is meeting one on one with the administrators to find out about our contracts for next year. That's right, we still haven't seen our contracts. My meeting isn't until June 1st.
Today I heard a rumor again, and at least part of it has been confirmed by Mr. Vice Principal. He knows nothing about the part that impacts me, of course.
So here's what I know. Computer Guy is leaving for a year. Fifth grade is chaos. Fifth Grade Teacher 2 is moving to computer for next year. This has been confirmed by two teachers, I know of the chaos first-hand, and Mr. VP confirmed the rest as well.
What I've heard is that Fifth Grade Teacher 1 will be moved to ESL part-time and library part-time. This sounds strangely like the way library was set up last year- two part-time librarians, one also teaching ESL. Would 5/1 moving down here make me part-time? No one knows, and no one would put it past the Powers That Be.
Upon hearing the rumor, I found myself sat upon by a pachyderm. I've mastered it for now, but he hasn't gone but a short distance away. Once I was out from under the beast, I found Mr. VP and asked what he knew. I did not want to be backed into that corner again like I was last year. But, as I said, he doesn't know. Library isn't his. Mrs. Principal, however, is in DC all week. I can't ask her until Monday at least.
I may have no control over what they decide for me, but I sure as hell am not going to walk into that contract meeting unprepared.

oh spider, that would really suck.
I don't think people realize just how sucky may is for teachers. Often times, we are rethinking our jobs, rethinking our future for next year, while the school year is winding down and we have pressure of so many other things.
Just remember that you are a blessed and beloved child of God. Know that whatever happens, you are ready for.

may sucks for many of us, spidey. I'm about to go into a budget meeting to explain why, no, they can't balance the budget by paying me $8000 less next year. Sigh. I will keep you in my prayers. I'm glad you are going to ask and fight to find out what you can. It's much better that way.
Love you,
sparks
This is what is happening to me right now. Definite cuts in many areas and rumors of others. My husband and I both work for different divisions in DOD. Our library may close. We are all at ends. I will think of you and pray.
