The Saga of Vladimir the Laptop
He was showing signs of sickness for a couple months. It was pretty sad. He'd be plugging along just fine, then suddenly he'd just... quit. It got frustrating. In spite of the signs, however, I was in denial. Maybe if I ignore it it'll go away. Yeah. That never actually works, does it?
So I finally called the doctor. On August 3rd, Vladimir went on a little road trip to the hospital for in-patient treatment. He was gone a week, and he came back to me the day Becki left.
You know how people go to the hospital with one problem and come back with something different broken? That's what happened with Vladimir. He came back refreshed and able to function at a normal level. Except for that one little glitch of the wireless not working at all. Oh, sure, the light was on saying it was working. Sure, the troubleshooting said it was fine. All the regular diagnostics said there's nothing wrong. But there was no signal, and he couldn't even find the network! But of course, the hospital was two time zones away and it was after 3 pm here on a Friday.
Well, I called them a few minutes ago, and I got a really nice technician who *gasp* listened to the symptoms and then talked me through the surgery. I opened a panel on the bottom of the laptop. I found two little wires that were both suspiciously unattached at one end. He told me where to connect them, then he had me bring Vladimir out of anaesthesia.
Success! The surgery was a complete success, and the wireless works!
Ah, the miracles of modern medicine.
