The Ghost of Employment Past
I woke up with the smug, condescending smirk of Mrs. Principal imprinted on my mind's eye.
I was at The School, working, presumably. I was without my car, and Mom had driven me. We got there, I opened the library, turned things on, then locked up and stopped in the lounge.
After a minute in the lounge, Mrs. P walked in and none too kindly pointed out that if I was going to be out of the library, a sign should be posted. Well, doggone it, but my contract didn't require me to be there until 8:30, and it was nowhere near that.
I suddenly realized I had left something in Mom's car, and she was still there, so I went to get it. As I was retrieving it, I was in the car, and Mom got in and started to drive away. I tried to stop her, but we were nearly to her school (several miles away) before she finally turned around and took me back.
I walked into the library, which had been locked, to a class full of kids. Sitting in the dark. With several VIP's visiting. And with Mrs. Principal giving me her far too familiar smug, condescending, over-the-rims-of-her-glasses smirk.
I woke up with a renewed feeling of I am SO glad I'm not there anymore!
