Who Am I, and What Have I Done With Sam?
Yesterday may as well have been the secret council that Elrond held in Rivendel. I felt that out of place.
Lunch was a gathering of the high and mighty. The mayor, several councilmen, the City Manager, a few candidates in the upcoming election, representatives of a State Assemblyman and the County Supervisor. I was almost surprised not to see any elves or wizards!
I couldn't breathe until the time of the event. I knew it was going to be that way, and I was on edge in anticipation. Of course, it was nowhere near as bad as I anticipated. It helped that my table included the city SnarkMan (who cracks me up) and one of the Chamber Board members who I actually know a little bit now.
The mixer was much less stressful. I had more responsibility and less help at lunch, and the other Cool Board Member was helping me. And I did not have to mingle. And my dad did not royally embarrass me when I was introduced, as he did at the breakfast two weeks ago.
Today, though, I think I am not myself. Today I have successfully called people I do not know- several of them! I am so uncomfortable with phones, and I think I called five people. Granted, I had to give myself a few minutes between each call, but I did it. Go me!
Then there was lunch. After I ate, I walked to the supermarket next door to get what ended up being a Snapple. As I left the checkout, I spotted an official looking man at the customer service desk. Based on context, I surmised that he might be the member of the Board of Directors that I had yet to meet. As I walked closer to investigate, my suspicion was confirmed.
I introduced myself.
To a complete stranger.
Wha???
