What a Novel Idea!
About halfway through liturgy today I realized a few things.
- It's Mother's Day.
- There was not going to be a Mother's Day sermon. (The homily was on the reading from Acts.)
- I'll never have to sit through another well-intentioned but just plain wrong Mother's Day sermon ever again. (No more plastic "jewels!")

Hi Christina,
I didn't miss the Mother's Day sermon at all. It was a nice refreshing message about the role of the Deacon of the Orthodox church. (It made me want to send HIM a card today. He has a lot of work to do... on a volunteer's salary.)
I hope you remembered to wish your mom a Happy Mother's Day.
I hope you have escaped the dangers of the Oliphaunts. (I don't know what your Oliphaunts are but I really hope that you find a peaceful shelter away from their squishing feet and piercing tusks.)
I am praying for you, new friend.
Love, Debbie Z.
AMEN, sister!
Mother's Day is like torture for me, considering my unsuccessful reproductive history. I remember thinking at one point yesterday morning (amid probably the worst meltdown I've had in years) that I wished I was going to an Orthodox service or somewhere else that sticks to the Church calendar, not Hallmark's.
Feeling much better today.
Hey Christina,
I'd like to hear more of your story. I didn't realize that you'd attended New Song. Maybe we can have coffee?

AMEN! If hear another Proverbs 31 sermon on what a real women is like I might barf. Praise God no more.
Yes, you will never hear such a sermon as that, simply because this is not the Gospel. The Hallmark holidays do not figure in the divine revelation of the Church.
As for Proverbs 31st, we read that passage on the very last day of Lent: we are worn out by fasting, and then we hear about the mystery of "a good woman who can find?"--and that, my friends, in the Church, the Bride of Christ!
