An Off Sort of Day
My alarm was set to go off at 5:15 and 5:30 this morning. It didn't. In fact, it didn't go off twice. There were no pigs chanting "Ore-snay, ore-snay." Instead, I woke up at 5:40 because I was in a weird position and my arm was in that painful phase of losing circulation. Consequently, I've been groggy since then. I've had black tea and coffee to no avail.
I've never been fabulous at math. Sometimes, though, numbers themselves give me difficulties. Today, for example. I had a voicemail that required a response. I wrote down the number, then went to dial it. I finally got it right on the fifth attempt. I don't know if there is any such recognized disorder as number dyslexia, but I have it. Even if it "doesn't exist."
My ability to concentrate is hovering close to zilch right now. Fortunately, I have errands to run this afternoon. Out of the office will be a good place to be. Except that I have a lot to do. Mixer tonight.
It's Thursday. I'm groggy, but the day will have redeeming qualities. It already has. The mixer will help. Friends and free food, after all. And the regularly scheduled time with E & Nathan. Almost certainly, E's cats will try to make me not breathe. That's always an adventure.
Ever seen an Orthodox priest riding through town on a bright red scooter? I had breakfast with Father Patrick today, and watching him drive up was the funniest thing I've seen in a while. This tall, lanky guy dressed in all black rode up on a red scooter wearing a full face helmet and an orange vest. His beard was peeking out from under the helmet. I was cracking up.
I always enjoy meeting with him.
Can it be nap time now? Maybe if I tried the whole waking up thing again, I'd get it right, and my brain would work.

There is dyslexia for numbers. Discalculia is a version of it. Dyslexia can be either numeric or alpha.
ily.
Take it from the sister with APD (audio processing disorder). That's like dyslexia of the auditory part of your brain. Mix that with the ADHD I was finally tested positive for and you have what appears to be the reason I used to get so frustrated at not being able to understand people.
ergo I now do my research.
btw I hate the word discalculia...it doesn't flow off the tongue and actually I can't even figure out how to pronounce it right. or left.
LOL
My sis Why. :)
just looked at the wikipedia entry. that's not my problem. i can manipulate numbers just fine... if i can only put them in the right order! they really don't like to stay in order. this may or may not have anything to do with my complete lack of ability in higher math.
If I saw such a guy as you describe, I would laugh too... :-)
