The Event of the Year
It's been a rough summer. I have been driven to every kind of exhaustion. This is a familiar place for me, though, and it hasn't been as miserable this time around as it used to be. Still, the exhaustion has left me unable to function outside of the most necessary scenarios. Blogging has suffered. Responding to emails has suffered. Responding to just about anything at all has suffered.
But here it is, the day after The Event of the Year. As is traditional, we had today off. This year, for the first time ever, we also have Tuesday off!
It was an incredibly long weekend, with almost every aspect of life crammed into two days. We had rain all day Saturday and plenty of sun on Sunday. I had several no-show vendors, and an irritating former vendor showed up to tell me what I was doing wrong. But there was also lots of free food from fantastic food vendors, and I have a growing collection of vendors who are delightful to work with. There was a steady stream of wonderful people manning the booth my church had in the non-profit section. Sc0tlas and his girlfriend came by. I saw a number of old friends. I saw the principal of The School- the one who decided I didn't really need a job two years ago. One of the chamber's most dedicated volunteers (who has become a friend of mine) died unexpectedly Sunday morning.
There'll be a funeral for Owen, otherwise known as Santa Claus, in a few days. He didn't show up to help on Saturday, and we were worried. We found out yesterday when someone started calling through his cell phone contacts. It was a rough way to end the weekend.
It's Monday, and I'm tired, but for once, I've earned the right to be. My legs are sore, and I'm walking funny as a result. I am covered with mysterious scrapes and bruises for which I cannot account. But I managed to fit in a good amount of time at the St. Peter's booth with my friends. I got to drive the church kids around in the golf cart. And at a time when I really needed it, I walked away from this weekend knowing without any question that I am well and truly loved.
